There are plenty of nice places to visit and to experience IN the Piedmont area. Our favorite places to see and to visit are the following!
Acqui Terme (AL)
• Approx. 10 minutes by car
• Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9am weekly market (Corso Italia)
• Organic Market on 1st Saturday of the month (Piazza Maggiorino Ferraris)
• The antiques market is on the fourth Sunday of the month (Corso Bagni)
• Get meat and fish at the several butcher/fishery in town
• Avoid 1pm to 4pm (rest hours), avoid Monday/Wednesday (rest day)
• Apero from 6pm at the small wine store Due Per Due next to the waterfall marble fountain (to start order Spumante!)
• Pizza or pasta at Ristorante Pizzeria Vecchio Borgo at the hot spring square
• Fetching hot water at Acqui fountain, bring a cup if you want to taste it! (Piazza della Bollente)
• Enjoy the natural Acqui thermal water and relax at the Lago delle Sorgenti Spa
Nizza Monferrato (AT)
• Approx. 30 minutes by car
• Very cozy small city, don’t go before 4pm because of lunch breaks
• Walk through the alleys in the center and drink “un caffè”!
• There is a very small but good masseuse just outside (Relux Benessere massage center), note: you have to make an appointment one by one!
• One of the best antiques market of the area is held in Nizza Monferrato every third Sunday of the month!
Bubbio (AT)
• Approx. 15 minutes by car
• Parco scultoreo Quirin Mayer: the sculpture park is situated in a magnificent scenic point. It is composed of 5 terraces where you can admire 19 sculptures made by the Swiss artist using sheets of aluminium
Canelli (AT)
• Approx. 25 minutes by car
• In Canelli you can visit the Underground Cathedrals, the historic wine cellars dug into the tufa rock, reaching up to 32m underground and run for more than 20km underneath the entire town and the surrounding hills. They are listed in the UNESCO Heritage Sites. To visit them you contact one of the wine cellars (Cantine): Gancia, Bosca, Contratto, Coppo
Roccaverano (AT)
• Approx. 30 minutes by car
• Parco d’Arte Quarelli is a large park which includes large sculptures and installations by emerging and famous artists
• Roccaverano is well known for a locally produced cheese made from goat milk called Robiola, a recognised DOP product, a must to try!
Asti (AT)
• Approx. 45 minutes by car
• Asti is a medieval town rich in history and monuments
• It is the center of production of the sparkling Asti Spumante DOCG
• One of the most famous events held in the city is the Palio di Asti, the oldest recorded one in Italy, in which all the old town wards compete in a bare-back horse race. It is held the 3rd Sunday of September
• Note lunch break so don’t go there before 4pm, or just be ready before 12pm
• The antiques market of Asti is held every fourth Sunday of the month!
• Some places we like and we suggest you to visit: FuoriLuogo, a cultural center, a co-working space and a coffee shop that offers a variety of events; Diavolo Rosso, a deconsecrated church, for concerts, food and drinks!
Alba (CN)
• Approx. 45 minutes by car
• It is one of the main cities in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont. The town is famous for its white truffle, wine production and chocolates, it is where Ferrero Rocher and Nutella come from and the legendary Gianduia was invented here
• The truffle festival goes on every weekend in October
Turin (TO)
• About 90 minutes by car
• Lying in a valley, surrounded by an alpine backdrop and world famous ski resorts
• Torino was the first capital of Italy and was the home of the Savoy kings. You can breath its regal character by walking thought the city and crossing the many palaces: Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Madama, Reggia di Venaria and Stupinigi
• Some of the most famous museums to visit are, the Biblioteca Reale with one of Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous works, Galleria d’arte Moderna, the Automotive Museum, the Egyptian Museum of Piedmont and the Cinema Museum in the Mole Antonelliana (Turin’s Eiffel Tower)
• Stadium and football museum of Juventus for the fans and football lovers!
Varigotti & Noli (SV)
• Approx. 90 minutes by car
• Ligurian coast in beach bar and with moorings e.g. Nick’s.
• Dinner by the sea in Noli at Ristorante Pizzeria Vittoria or in the village of Noli at Bucun du Preve
